Privacy Policy

We collect as little as we can and keep as much as possible on your own device. We do not sell your personal data, and we do not use your child’s information to advertise to you.

• Child profiles. The name or nickname, skin type, and reminder preferences you enter for each child. This is stored on your device and used to calculate reminders.
• Approximate location. Used to look up the UV index where you are. We request the coarsest level of location that still gives a useful UV reading.
• Notification settings. Whether you have allowed notifications, and the schedule of reminders the app has queued on your device.
• Diagnostics. Basic, aggregated information about crashes and app performance, so we can fix bugs.

We do not ask for your date of birth, your address, or your payment details, and the app does not require an account to work.

We use it to work out when to remind you, to deliver those reminders, and to keep the app stable and accurate. We do not use it for advertising or profiling, and we do not build a profile of your family beyond what is needed to time a sunscreen reminder.

Your location is used to fetch the real-time UV index for your area, and is sent to our UV data provider for that purpose. We do not use it to track your movements or build a location history.

You can revoke location permission at any time in your device settings. If you do, the app can no longer personalise reminders to your local UV conditions, and UV-based features will stop working — reminders you have already scheduled will still fire.

Sunscreen Buddy is intended for parents and guardians, not for children. Any information about a child in the app is entered by an adult, and consists only of what is needed to time a sunscreen reminder — typically a nickname and a skin type. We do not knowingly collect personal information directly from children.

If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us at support@sunscreenbuddy.com and we will delete it.

We rely on a small number of third-party services:

• a weather and UV index data provider, which receives your approximate location;
• the Apple App Store and Google Play, which handle app distribution and their own analytics;
• a crash reporting and analytics service, which receives diagnostic data.

These providers process data under their own privacy policies, which we encourage you to read.

We do not sell your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers. We share information only with the service providers described above, or where we are legally required to do so.

Child profiles and reminder settings live on your device. Deleting the app removes them. Diagnostic data is kept only as long as it is useful for fixing problems, and is then deleted or anonymised.

If you would like us to delete anything we hold about you, email support@sunscreenbuddy.com and we will take care of it.

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to correct it, to have it deleted, to restrict or object to how we use it, and to receive a copy in a portable format. To exercise any of these rights, contact us at the address below. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.

We may update this policy as the app evolves. The new version will be posted on this page with an updated “Last updated” date, and takes effect when posted.
